Lazarus saves my project every time I compile it.

Yes, it must do that, otherwise the compiler cannot compile it. The compiler must access to the files on disk.
I open an existing project, I modify it, I compile it,

So all modifications are saved.

I close the project without saving it and saying to lazarus, when it asks me, that I don't want to save.
The project is saved anyway with the modifications.

What modifications?

Lazarus last svn on winxp.
I'm doing something wrong?

I don't know.
