I know it's not the same as a native chart, but there is an XY Chart.vi in the LabVIEW examples. The chart buffer is done in G software rather than embedded in the front panel object, but it gets the job done.
I think it existed in LV5.0.1. If not, you could code your own in about 22 minutes. Just keep the data in a shift register and update the entire XY Graph on every update.
