How about this idea - (requires a soldering iron) Pop open the kx-t30865 box and replace the existing switch button with a new one that offers a separate secondary closure.
If you are using a custom face-plate the switch problem gets a lot easier. The main drawback is where to get the new switch. Try MarVac Electronics, Frys or (shudder) Radio Shack.
