The current terms may mean POTS by default, but the concept can
go past that.

I am asking if anyone make "VOIP extenders" not for POTS but
for proprietary sets such a KXTD, Avaya, Nortel, etc...

So in your telecommuter office at home, there sits the same
kind of phone you have downtown...
