Hello all,

We have a KX-TD500 with a basic shelf + expansion shelf. We have about
20 ESLC + 2 LCOT + 1 DHLC + 1 PRI + 1 CPU + 1 TSW cards configured on
the TD500.

For the past two weeks we have been facing some weird issues with the
expansion shelf.

1) At first on all the extensions configured on the expansion shelf, we
couldnt hear the phone ringing properly on incoming calls i,e the ring
was all broken & erratic. This problem later matured and there was no
ring at all on incoming calls. Panasonic engineers who worked on this
issue said there was some problem in the ringing circuit of the power
supply. So we shut down the expansion shelf and sent the power supply to
the service center for repair and later replaced with a new one.

2) During this we had to get some extensions on the expansion shelf
configured on the lower shelf because the expansion shelf extensions are
used for some of our critical departments. So we removed the amphenol
connectors connected to the expansion shelf and connected them to the
cards on lower shelf and reconfigured the needed extensions on them.

This worked for a day and later the basic shelf power supply stopped
working. The power supply's LED started ticking (tick..tick..tick..)
everytime the TD500 was powered on and the system failed to start.

So, again this power supply was replaced with a different one by the
panasonic engineers.

3) Now, we have both the power supplys of TD500 functioning and the
system starts up properly with all extensions working. But after 6 to 8
hrs after powering on the system we are observing the same ringing
behaviour on all the extensions of the expansion shelf.

4) Shutting down the system and powering it on after a few minutes
solves the problem for a while i,e all extensions/phones configured on
the expansion shelf ring properly.

5) Nobody seems to have a clue on what the exact cause is and is turning
out to be a wild goose chase. Below are the some of the guesses that we
have heard from the panasonic engineers.

a) The power supply on the expansion shelf is not able to handle the
load of all cards.

b) There is some magnetic induction from the field side i,e from the
extensions side to where the phones are connected to. Could be due to
power wirings and telephone wiring for the office going through the same
conduit. We have verified the same and both the power wirings and
telephone wirings use different conduits.

c) Could be a short-circuit due to one of the ESLC or LCOT cards
connected to the expansion shelf. We still need to verify this by
systematically testing extensions on each card the next time the problem
occurs.

d) Could be a connection problem from the basic shelf to the upper shelf.

e) Could be a problem with the expansion shelf mother board. The mother
board was completely cleaned and serviced today. We havent found a way
to verify this part yet.

f) Word from the panasonic service center is that some transistors on
both the power supplys (the faulty ones which were later replaced)
failed and they suggested b), c) & e) could cause this problem.

Iam no telecommunications expert and at a loss here in identifying the
cause of this problem. Has anyone else using KX-TD500 faced similair
issues ?

All suggestions are welcome and iam all for trying those out.

TIA
Dushyanth
