all the panos i've seen have a 4 slot ring sequence, so if you want them all to ring
at the same time, they have
to be every 4th extension. ie: 101,105,109,113,117,121,125,129 ring at the same time.
103,107,111,115,119 etc will
ring at the same time, but between the first group above. 102 group and 104 group
will ring between the first
two. if you have 101, 102 103 and 104 set to ring on incoming, they will ring 101,
then 102, then 103, then 104,
then back to 101 again. one of the 4 will always be ringing. we used to put all the
incomings on 101(usually
receptionist, and then use 105, 109 etc for any other phones that needed to ring. If
we needed more than were
available, we would then use 103... but then split the building, put all the 101... in
the front half, and all the
103... in the back half. did i say it's good to plan your installs;-) oh- i should
have used ports instead of
extensions above, the hardware sets the sequence, the extension number can be
anything.
every system that uses 90 volt ring, will sequence. telephone co's did this with a 5
period sequence (oddly there
were 5 common ringer frequencies, created for party line service - two standards to
boot, harmonic and decimonic,
i remember a third, i think it was something like syncronic) most key systems used
low voltage buzzers, so it
wasn't a problem ringing everything once a cycle, and with tones (from the set
speaker) power had little to do
with ringing. fyi, 20 Hz (or 16/20/25/33/46/50/66 Hz) at 105 volts isn't easy to
make. orignally it was from a
motor alterator set, later from a mechanical vibrator(hummer;-), then a resonant
transformer, and now transistors
or ic's. if you have a line with 5 ringers on it, it can take almost 1/10 amp to ring
them! that's a lot of
power, thus you spread the load by ringing 4/5 groups, one at a time.
