I apologize if these are newbie questions y'all are tired of -- a search of the archives here didn't turn up what I was looking for. I recently purchased a used KX-TD308 on eBay for my home, which came with a couple of proprietary digital phones. One of these is a 7431, so I should have what I need for basic programming. The system came with "all manuals" but I guess the seller was only aware of the User Manual. I have been successful in setting the date and time, following instuctions found at the URL below. 1. What's the cheapest way to get hold of installation and system/manager programming manuals? I've come across a manual for a digital 612E at http://www.sharetimeitc.co.uk/User%20Manuals/KXTD612/P_G.pdf and am wondering if it is "close enough" Should I just "suck it up" and buy the manuals? Or, buy programmator (is it "intuitive" enough without the manuals?) instead? I'm already $400 over budget on this project (budget = $0) is the problem... If your budget is zero, I guess a 612E manual is better than no manual. If you sit down with it and read it, it would make most of your next questions unecessary. 2. I have the two phones hooked up via their line cords punched down on a 66 block (just for testing). They both apparently get power, etc., and one (on the equivalent of jack 2) gets intercom dial tone and can call the other one (on jack 1), and they can connect just fine. However, the 7431 on jack 1 displays "Not Valid" and gives a (continuously) stuttering dial tone. Also the message light on the second set is lit. Also, the extension names are obviously wrong. Seems to me the best thing to do to clear all these things up (and countless ones I have yet to discover) would be to do what I'd call a factory reset, but I can't find anything that tells me how to do such a thing. Ablecomm's site suggests a "system clear" for certain problems, but I don't see anything there about how to do it. There is a reset button on the KSU at the top. It is pretty obvious what it is and what it looks like, since there aren't many openings on the panel that are marked RESET. If that doesn't fix it, go into programming (you did read how to do that?) and go to program 900 and clear the system. A digital phone needs only the 2nd pair (pairs 2,5,8,11,14,17,20 or 23) to operate. Try reversing it if it doesn't work. Also, dial 790 into the stutter dialtone to see if it clears the extension. 3. One of the phones (7420) came without a desi card or its plastic cover. What's the best (cheapest) way to replace these? Also, a programming overlay for the 7431 would come in real handy. Plastics and paper goods can be ordered from various companies. At zero budget you're going to have a tough time. I suggest you memorize the overlay and use a sharpie on the buttons :-) 4. I love the idea of the ablecomm panapatch, as it fits in nicely with the rest of my wiring (both network and voice are wired with cat 5e and terminated on patch panels) but as mentioned above I can't really afford it. I assume it is constructed of a standard patch panel, and the second and third jack in each group is wired by "double punching" the appropriate pair on the first jack. True? False? Comments? The last time I checked that was sort of true. I used a standard 66 block with 12 jacks on it and ran jumpers for my application. In your case, you could do something on any spare jacks you have, since an out-of-box TD-308 only needs 12 jacks. (hint Jacks 1-4 are 2 pair, jacks 5-8 are 2nd pair only) Carl Navarro _________________________________________________________________ KX-T Mailing list --- http://kxthelp.com/ Subscription changes: http://kxthelp.com/mailman/listinfo/kxt
