I think I understand...

Does this work?
Calls come 1:1  to ext. A
If A is fwd/busy/na to B, then B can help answer the calls, right?
If B is fwd/busy/na to voicemail, won't A's caller end up in A's box?

Since the call came in 1:1 to A,  then A can be considered the "owner" of
the call. Even though A is fwd to B, the call should not end up in B's box,
it will end up back in A's box.

A's mailbox can also have a covering extension of B if desired, so A's
message can say " sorry I'm out, to speak with my assistant press 0 now".
