On https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess there is past precedent for myself and Rik to review Feature Freeze exceptions for Kubuntu. This delegation has occasionally been renewed on a case-by-case basis, informally, at the discretion of the Ubuntu Release Team.
As part of gaining eligibility for this delegation, myself and Rik received training on how to review Feature Freeze Exceptions. This also involves determining what actually needs an FFE in the first place, and the extremely specific nuances around that policy. I'm going to state outright that this does not need an FFE, in my opinion. Here's why: - This worked completely fine in Noble and Oracular, to my recollection. With the issue only being introduced this cycle, fixing the issue restores feature parity with Oracular, and therefore is bugfix. - It is expected that packages need changes to properly function with confined user ns as introduced in Noble's AppArmor. Aligning with this platform expectation, even if involving introducing a new profile, is simply bugfix, especially if we had it previously. My question to Rik, specifically: do you agree or concur with my statements, or do you disagree? I would echo the same to the Release Team. Do you agree/concur with the rationale? Are you willing to let us (me, Rik, Scarlett) handle this specific one on our own, and if so, could you explicitly state that? To Scarlett, thank you for your work here. You're right that these were unintentionally dropped as part of a Debian merge. I certainly appreciate the fixes. I'm flexible, just let me know how you'd like to proceed.
