Public bug reported:

Prior to 24.10 you could configure an Updates entry to show in the
system tray. This gave a quick way to check for pending updates - useful
when you have a laptop that you only use for brief periods each day.

In 24.10 this has gone and there is only an "updates available" icon in
the tray if the daily check has found pending updates.
