Probably not and glad you were no injured or worse.  A "competent pilot" wouldn't have done that either.  A tri-gear can compensate for the lack of skills of incompetent pilots but it can't save them from all their shortcomings.  How many tri-gear aircraft have you seen damaged or destroyed from prop strikes, damaged firewalls from hard landings, or simply a total loss of control?  We've had two at my airport alone.

Tri-gear has it advantages and is the primary reason they are so popular.  Tail wheels have their advantages also and is the reason they are still used.  How many "bush planes" use tri-gear.

Everyone should go with their preference and comfort level. Flying should be fun..................

P.S. You were kind to pull the airplane back to the hangar but I might have been more inclined to tell the pilot that nearly killed you to think about what he just did while he pushes his airplane back to the hangar.
