Howdy all, back in September I purchased a new motor for my kr, but the current one was running fine so I had no need to swap it out. Well then the starter clutch on the Ol' delco remy gave out and I figured it was time for a new B&C starter since I was tired of dealing with it. At that point I said "well I have a perfectly good motor back here- might as well swap it now while i'm already doing surgery" And that is exactly what I did. Since I've done quite a bit of engine work on the old one, thankfully it went pretty well and relatively quickly, mostly just waiting on parts and keeping days short enough in the hangar to not burn out. For those of you on facebook I am sure that you've seen quite a few of my pictures and a couple posts this last month- for those of you not on there enjoy this picture from today's test flight.
For those of you following my saga of repetitive cylinder troubles- We found the culprit: a blown cam follower that was ground to effectively dust. Amazingly however that metal did not find its way into the crank or cam- and both fetched a healthy price on the open market. For anyone needing O-200 parts I still have a good chunk of them just ask away. Some new improvements (courtesy of an explosive tach sender) include fuel flow and totalizer, digital tachometer with ignition monitoring, upgraded radio harness and overall back panel wiring, and 4 point digital EGT & CHT gauge. Still sticking to my little efis on my phone though- im frugal when it comes to that.
More updates to come- hopefully a few more test flights before I head out of town for a well deserved vacation. I've got my MEI ride thursday so wish me luck!
