I went to help a friend check the timing on his VW (aircraft) magneto. Two questions: I think my timing tool may be malfunctioning. I installed a new battery. How do I know if the unit is working correctly? When I turn the unit on with no leads connected should the lights be on or off? If I connect either the green or red lead to the black should the light go on or off? In short, how do I know if it is working correctly?
Second: When checking mag timing, I hook the black lead to engine ground and either / both the red and/or green lead to the mag being checked. Question, does the red / green lead hook to the mag P lead and should the ignition P lead wire be disconnected or if careful (plugs removed) the ignition in the "on" position for the mag being tested?
I timed the mags on 211LF for 20 years but the details are floating somewhere in the grey matter.
No guesses please................. Larry Flesner -- KRnet mailing list KRnet@list.krnet.org https://list.krnet.org/mailman/listinfo/krnet
