History: This topic of official plans seems to come up every 3 - 5 years. The last time, I called Jeannette and told her without ongoing support we feared the design would wither and die away. We offered to do all the work of making plans available and would send her all the residual income after covering duplication and distribution expenses; just keep the name and design alive. She succinctly stated she would not permit any duplication from the existing plans by anybody. She transferred that responsibility to the individual who took over the business but she did not surrender the design intellectual property. [Note: her daughter is a lawyer..] A group of builders & pilots later talked about producing a set of plans and a construction manual <<from scratch>> largely following the design concepts made popular as the KR aircraft series. This was intended to fill out the missing detail areas from the KR2 plans including the KR2S supplement. Many improvements to the design would be included like the new airfoil as well as improved construction techniques. That effort had success with creating a draft "construction manual" to become just a list of items that should be included in a final build manual. Some participants had volunteered to write individual chapters. That never seemed to come together as a whole. On the other part of the effort, I personally don't know how far creating new plans drawings progressed.
So here we are again. People want to buy plans and parts. The current holder of the design seems fully occupied with many "irons in the fire" so to speak. I'm sure we've all been there. It's just unfortunate for new people interested in the design to be unable to get their hands on what everyone needs to move forward; a plan. Other comments: My set of plans do have a "Purchase Agreement" and serial number associated with the sale & release from Jeannette to me. The agreement states among other statements; "... Recipient agrees ... not to disclose ... nor ... duplicate ... except as specifically authorized in writing by Rand Robinson ..." -and- "The information disclosed herein is for the recipient's use during the construction of one (1) aircraft only." All this was recorded in Jeannette's "Master File Book" and is on my sale receipt. So I think we can put the topic of unlawful duplication to rest. Can't do it folks.
