I still use Great Plains for most of my VW replacement parts. I just found out a couple days ago that Linda Bennett is actually still working and running "O'Keefe Aero" with one of her children. Talked with her on the phone for a bit. She kept the landing gear, wheels, axles, and brakes side of Great Plains when the company was sold. I had to replace some brake pads and found this out while tracking down replacements.
She is pretty knowledgeable. Most of the calls I made for parts over the years were answered by her. http://www.okeefeaero.com/about-us.html Thanks, Rob Schmitt N1852Z Lee's Summit MO -----Original Message----- From: Mark Langford <m...@n56ml.com> Sent: Thursday, November 11, 2021 7:53 PM To: KRnet <krnet@list.krnet.org> Subject: KR>Re: HAPI crank Mike KSEE wrote: >>I'm sure Mark will offer more helpful info than I'm able to . . . but from what I've picked up over the years - mainly from Steve Bennett - the HAPI cranks were cast. A quick search showed this: "The best and most sure method for recognizing a forged crank is to look for the parting lines on the counterweights. A forged piece will have a wide, irregular rough patch. A cast component (shown) will have a very sharp, well-defined line where the mold was separated." It may be that a Great Plains crank and hub assembly are interchangeable. My concern would be does GPASC still sell those prop hubs, bearings, and cranks (which I'm pretty sure are SCAT-forged with a 3 degree taper on them). Indeed, Steve was the expert on what was interchangeable and what wasn't. He left a pretty big hole in the VW aircraft arena. It may be that Joe Horvath at Revmaster would know also, or Revmaster's hub/crank may be interchangeable.
