Larry,

I just rechecked my plans, I put handwritten notes for the KR2S changes
directly on the KR2 manual pages when I built it.

The horizontal stab and elevator width's are the same as the KR2, but there is
an addition in length on both the stabilizer and elevator dimensions. So yes,
there is an increase is area for these surfaces.

The vertical stabilizer and rudder are both taller and has more length as well.

Thanks,

Rob Schmitt

Subject: KR>new W&B

I've installed my wings after working on a fuel leak at the fuel senders and
took the occasion with empty tanks to do a new W&B. To no surprise, with the
addition of wheel pants, possible first round poor scales, and other changes,
my KR has put on 30 pounds in the last 15 years just as I did personally.
That's the equivalent of 10 gallon of fuel. My CG range is 53.5" to 61.5" and
with me and 25 gallon of fuel my CG falls at 58.9". I seldom if ever fly with
more than15 to 18 gallon so I'm in good shape. I sure wish I could find a
place to park my extra 30 pounds. With the addition of another 10 pounds or so
in the baggage areas and other items I add my normal T.O. weight would fall in
the 1130 pound range. I would be grounded in the U.K. I'm convinced that my
flight to Oshkosh a few years back with Mark Langford as passenger, near full
fuel, and all our Oshkosh baggage, that I was pushing1300 pounds and was in the
very aft CG range. It certainly flew that way in pitch forces, le
 ss noticeable in weight.

For some reason I always believed that the plans for the 2S increased the width
of the horizontal stabilizer. At the Gathering I acquired a tape measure and
checked. All the 2S KR's that had not been modified had the same width
horizontal as mine with the standard KR2 width. I have no idea where that
misconception came from.

On another note, on a short auto trip yesterday I noticed a great number of
Monarch butterflies were on their migration back to Mexico from the northern
USA and Canada. Today while eating lunch I watched a Monarch fluttering about
the flower bed out back. While I was impressed with the capabilities of the KR
on the return trip from the Gathering I am humbled by the performance of the
Monarch. In just 4 or 5 generations this tiny creature travels thousands of
miles from Mexico to Canada and back with no GPS, ATC, Google Maps or other
aids, right back to the place of it's ancestral origin. I will concede that
they make a number of fuel stops but while we often pat ourselves on the back
for our accomplishments I think we need to stop occasionally and appreciate the
fact that Mother Nature has us beat hands down.

Have a good weekend...........
