Setting in my recliner enjoying the air-conditioning and watching Youtube I got to feeling like I ought to be doing something constructive.. I forced myself out of the recliner and out in to the 90+ degree heat and drove to the hangar.  Annual due next month and I need to replace the tail wheel tire.  Hot it was but I jumped on the task like a true KR builder / flier.

Old tire , worn to the point of near failure.

Just 5 pounds of air in the old tire.  I thought it felt a bit soft.  (wrong scale on the gauge, this is kg/cm2)  Matco says low pressure is the cause of my flats in the past but the "flat" problem was cured by applying tire patch glue to the tire bead and the rim to prevent the tire from slipping on landing.  Several years now and no flats.

New tire.  You can see how much the old tire was worn.

Had not serviced the tail wheel unit in 5+ years at least so I disassembled it  / cleaned it / re-assembled and greased the unit.  The tail wheel Gods were with me as in disassembly the little spring loaded pin went "BONG" and landed somewhere in the hangar.  After a quick look-around I found it lying in plain site in a channel of my stool.  Dodged a bullet on that one.  Assembly now cleaned / greased / new tire & tube and ready to fly. This assembly is the Aviation Products, Inc lightweight 4" wheel unit.  It was modified to take the 6" Matco pneumatic wheel and tire.  Money well spent on this setup.

Now for a quite evening and I'll get to check out the new seat belt.
