Chris,

HVLP rigs use a blower instead of an air compressor. It moves a large quantity
of air at low pressure.

For painting, I have a Grayson rig that I bought from Home Deprivation for
about $100. The hose is about 1 1/2 inch corrugated plastic and is quite
flexible.

The volume of air should be sufficient to provide good breathing and cooling
air for a hood.
