I have used 2024t3 alluminium 1.6 thickness. I made two stifners in the middle and two small tubes to the next wooden member to support the pannel. Works great. To cut the holes I did everyting with a taperrouter. You need to practice a bit but if you now the trick you are free to cut everything on the line you drawed on your alluminium.
