Yes, I made it back at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon...although not quite back to my airport. The wind was something like 12k gusting to 20k (90 degree crosswind) at my home airport, so I opted to land at nearby Meridianville instead, which was aligned with the wind. Even at sunset it was a steady 20 mph crosswind, and that stuff just doesn't work for me on our 40' wide runway. The wonder-wife dropped me off at 5:15 this morning at Meridianville, and after wiping the dew off, I flew it back to my home airport for a nice calm-wind landing. OSH was a blast as usual, but also stressful flying in, despite the low traffic level on Friday afternoon. The weather was concerning as well, as there was word of potential 100 mph winds, hail, and tornadoes headed our way. We got lucky and dodged the worst of it, but it was still an amazing display of nature's power to shake things up. Then we got another dose the next afternoon, with a total of something like 5" of rain on the OSH airport, along with the resulting chaos of newly formed lakes on the airport, and a day-long closure to any incoming planes that were planning to park on grass. Visiting with friends and fellow KR folks made it all worth it though. It was great to see Phil Matheson again, as well as Larry and Gwen Howell, Joe Horton, Mike Sylvester, Rob Schmitt, Roger Baalman, Robert Pesak, and all the folks who showed up at the KR Forum. On the way back, Mike and I stopped by Mount Vernon for Breakfast at the new "Bonnie Restaurant" at the airport. The whole area has been renovated to open up the restaurant, which now opens out into the lobby, to include all the tables in what was previously the lobby. The food was pretty good, and lunch was on special for just $6.99. They had a good crowd, which probably numbered 25 or so when we left at 11:30. Looking forward to the Gathering in September. More on that later....
