I had a 1985 KR-2 I dissembled for parts for my Taylor - mono plane and I found a few areas that was not to flight standards. One area was the WAF hidden under the skins they were rusted and had a thick crust of rust on them but did clean up with effort. second was the fasteners for holding wing tank lines some of the screws where steal and they were rusted badly. As far as flaps if the wing roots are done it would be a pain to get the proper linkage tied in and in my opinion would be more trouble then what you would gain. You may be better to build in a belly board air brake set up.
