For the drone industry to really work safely, the drones need to know where everything in the air is, even those aircraft that aren't obligated to equip because they'll never enter rule airspace, don't have electrical systems and are thus exempt, balloons, etc.
Thus, a move is afoot to equip us all. uAvionix estimates current cost to equip with their Out equipment is about $600. They're selling a portable in the UK called a SkyGuard that would work with out planes as well, but it's not available here. Yet. uAvionix makes the point in the article below https://uavionix.com/blog/drone-repellent/ that it would make sense for Amazon, Fed Ex and other drone delivery users to create a fund to equip us (Experimentals and other anolomies in the airspace) at their expense.
