The problem is "center of lift" and the "C.G". , which need to balance,
are constantly changing in flight with fuel burn / speed / power
settings / angle of attack, flaps,etc. The elevator, and hence the trim
system of which there are several, is the control we use to control the
aircraft when these two are not at the same location. Any aircraft can
only be rigged to be balanced at a specific c.g., and speed and not
require trim. Anything other than that one flight c.g. and speed will
require trim. As stated above, the c.g. of any aircraft changes during
flight, some more than other depending on the design.
