That's a new one on me...the distributor should be grounded through the distributor clamp, if nothing else. I've never grounded my distributor before, and I've had about four different engines off, apart, and back on again something like seven different times. It's a good data point though, weird as it is. I do know that the engine won't run if the condenser isn't grounded, as we saw that on Paul's engine.
