Please accept my apology for violating the etiquette of replying this way,
but the subject demands it.  I mentioned a few years ago I was able to
experience a high altitude chamber (set to simulate 25,000' msl).
In less than 5 minutes I couldn't use a pencil much less fly a plane.  And
YOU DO NOT KNOW IT.  You will die a happy camper because with hypoxia you
are usually euphoric.  I certainly was.
At lower altitudes it may take longer but the net result may be the same.
Why chance it?
I did just pick up an oxygen tank and regulator like Mike has (thanks for
the idea Mike) and intend to use it over 10,000' day VFR and 8,000' night.
My personal selected minimums.
Maybe I'll change those numbers as time goes by and I get to experiment
with them.
We need every little safety factor we can get.  And this one is easy.
