Hi All,

I fly from 5673 MSL. I often drive to 11,000 MSL. I have seen many people
have issues at that altitude. If you get a mountain checkout they will provide
you with some good information about flying at altitude. FAA requirements
aside; at one point I was suggested to just use my oxygen for a 5 hour flight
(most of the time 12,500) to KGUE in AZ, and I would feel a lot better.

Look for lost awareness and blue under your fingernails. It is very hard for a
pilot to notice oxygen issues. I read an NTSB report of a pilot who passed out
due to the O2 tank not functioning properly.

Don’t forget your to monitor fuel mixture!

And many get "mountain sickness" and have to acclimate to altitude and
some have died at very high levels.
