FWIW, George and I flew together a fair amount. The performance of his KR with the O-235 was far superior to mine with an O-200. However, George had that engine pumped up to where it was producing a claimed 140 HP and it showed in the performance. He could cruise with the RVs quite easily and could outclimb them as well. George had just upgraded to an O-320, which he proudly had trimmed to a 2# lighter installation than his O-235, but was killed in the second flight behind the O-320 5 years ago. It's not known whether he had an airframe, engine, or medical problem when the crash occurred. -Jeff Scott Los Alamos, NM -------------------- That was George McHenry who is no longer with us. I know the reported performance was about the same or better than the O-200 birds. I am mounting an O-235 to mine but may change back to the Corvair now that the crank issue has been solved. In my opinion the O-235 is the heaviest engine that should be attempted on a KR. My Smith Miniplane has one too and it just runs the weight up so high that you have little useful load left.
