Hi Hendrik,
I had an unexpected engine failure on my first flight.
Engine overheated on climb out but returned to normal in level flight. I
decided to go on to my regular field, but when I reduced speed on the
downwind leg the temps rose again. Turned on to base leg and the engine
cut...Had to dive to get sufficient speed to hop over some convenient trees
on base. Flopped in to the unused runway breaking prop in the process.
What I think was the main problem was that I used aviation oil in my
Revmaster which was too thick.
Fitted an adjustable cooling air outflow flap just to help and never had
that problem again.
Should've used correct oil, but just didn't think-idiot !

Cheers
Mac
