Russ Barnett (who built a gorgeous award-winning KR2 and flew it KR at
MVN recently), had an engine out landing in his Mooney. See forwarded
message from Becky Barnett, Russ's wife below. There is no need for
everybody on the list to comment on this...I'm just sending it as
notification. I'll say it for all the rest...BUMMER! Mark L.

I wanted to let you know that Russ Barnett, Ozark, MO, had to make an
off-field landing Saturday, February 18, 2017. He was getting a check
ride with his examiner when the engine quit on his Mooney M20E and had a
forced landing in rough terrain south of Springfield, MO.
He received multiple facial lacerations, fractured eye socket, burst L4
vertebrae, fractured L1 vertebrae, and a fractured tibia in his left
leg. He had facial surgery the night of the accident, spine surgery a
few days later with rods/screws, and eye socket surgery to attach a
couple of floating bones around the eye this past Wednesday, 2/8/17. He
has to wear a back brace for three more weeks and has a knee immobilizer
on his left leg of which he is hoping to have removed after he sees the
orthopedic doctor on Monday, 2/13/17. Overall he is doing very well and
recovery will take a little time. We praise the Lord for sparing his
life. So many miracles have been seen these last three weeks.
His co-pilot had a couple of facial lacerations, an elbow laceration and
a fractured T12 vertebrae which is being healed with a back brace. They
both are expected to recover completely.
The Mooney is a total loss.
If you wish to call Russ you can reach him at 417-581-0068 (h) or
417-576-1386 (c).
Kind regards,
Becky Barnett (wife)
