The very best sander that I have ever found for sanding off paint is the Skil Octo Sander. I use the 60 grit paper and it does not gum up. Here is a link to some information on it at Amazon. I have bought mine at Lowes but the only paper they have for it is in an assortment and the only grit I use with it is 60 or 80.
