Stef,

I would not bother to extend the lead edge of the pitot/static ahead
of the lead edge. It only increases the opportunity for them to get
damaged by accident.

I built the very simple system as suggested in the KR plans, the same
as suggested in other posts. The assembly is mounted just outside
the propeller arc in the outboard wing panel. They extend approx. 6
inches below the wing and the lead edge of the tubes are nearly in
line with the lead edge of the wing. Flying in a number of "no wind"
conditions in the last 460 hours, the system seems to be accurate to
within 1 or 2 miles per hour as compared to the GPS ground
speed. Don't waste time trying to re-invert the wheel. Others have
tried to find other static port locations on the aircraft but I don't
see any way they will find a better location then the setup suggested
in the plans. The critical part is to keep the tubes aligned
parallel to the longitudinal axis of the airplane. Keep it simple and go fly.
