Maybe a bit more information would be in order here, a 1/4" hole (2/8") out of a 5/8" longeron may not be Ok to fill in this manner.
Any hole drilled in a spar cap may also not be ok unless it is properly repaired with the appropriate slice (AC43). A hole drilled near the neutral axis of the spar would probabbly be fine, as would any other area that was primarily in compression. Discuss this with someone competent to advise you. Not a problem at all. 1/4 and 1/8" dowels are readily available though not always of the wood you might desire. Birch, maple and poplar dowels are what you usually find at lumber yards but google Woodworkers Warehouse or other suppliers to find a wood of choice. Although For holes that small in diameter it is not necessary to match the wood....poplar or maple will do. -----Original Message----- From: Phillip Hill Sent: Sunday, December 02, 2012 10:26 AM To: KR List Subject: KR> Filling holes drilled in wood... Is it acceptable to fill holes in wood structures by driving wooden dowels of equal wood strength into the holes "greased" with T-88 epoxy? Any problems with this? I'm talking about drill holes, 1/4" or smaller. Phill Hill Collinsville, IL _______________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at http://tugantek.com/archmailv2-kr/search.
