Dan has a good point below concerning weather in September. Larry Flesner, what
do you think about October? Lets hear your thoughts and opinion. I can remember
years ago we held the EAA Southwest Regional flyin in Kerrville Texas at the
Mooney factory side of the airport. It was always in September and usually had
good weather. The weather began to change a little so they decided to move the
flyin into October if I remember correctly. I think the first year after the
date change a Hurricane hit Texas or near Texas and the event was rained out
totally. It flooded the place and I don't think any planes at all were there
and typically there would be 300 to 500 planes there plus lots of drive in
campers. Weather is a funny thing and hard to forecast as we all know. I would
like to be a weatherman sometimes. Where else can you work, be wrong almost
every day and still keep your job? ; )
October would be fine with me but Jones will be mad because his countdown will
have a couple weeks added to it!! LOL
I also have been wondering if it would help arrival at the next Gathering if we
all are prepaid for banquet tickets, hats and shirts. If we can't make it there
for some reason then our banquet ticket money will just be a donation to the KR
fund because the banquet food has to be preordered and planned. If this is not
the case then maybe your banquet ticket money can be applied to Larry or
whomever for mailing prepaid shirts and hats. This way maybe we would only need
someone at the table to pass out name tags, prepaid shirts, hats, banquet
tickets and take a few bucks from newbies for banquet or extra shirts or hats
that may be available. Prepaid shirts and hats might insure that there are not
a bunch left over that Larry needs to try and sell. I am not sure if that
would help Larry Flesner much but it might. As I stated before, if we can free
Larry from being tied down to the sign in table so he can fly his airplane,
stand by his airplane and
answer questions or look at others airplanes more would probably be
appreciated. He is already spending a lot of time planning and preparing months
in advance plus shipping things for people afterwards. He is almost like a one
man band. Thanks Mr Ritchie for name tags and others who have been at the sign
up table assisting Larry.
Just throwing out ideas to try and streamline the money thing.

I have brought this subject up many times after Gatherings that were plagued
with bad weather.
We continue to have the Gathering in September, one of the worst times of
year for expecting good weather. I am submitting again, that we consider
changing the time of the gathering to the middle of that month. I am
suggesting October 18th and 19th for next year's Gathering in hopes that we
can get more planes safely to and from the event.
