If you are near an EAA   Chapter, nico press tools are usually available for
loan or with the owner attached to "help".

Subject: KR> What sort of fitting is normally used on the end of the aileron
cables? And where should i look to buy them offline?

Well, as I spend the week building (vacation), I'm finding that I need to
shorten my aileron control cables.... Rerouting them around the new landing
gear has produced more slack than the adjusters can take up....

The ends are wrapped around a teardrop shaped metal sleeve with a crimp
fitting behind it...

I've heard 'nicopress' mentioned before... Is that what these are?

Also, is this a hardware store item, boat part, car/bike thing, or will I
absolutely have to get the fittings and tool (or get the fittings put on)
at an aircraft specialty store?
