Dan's idea is better, but this one is quicker.  Purchase a set of replacement 
slats for vertical blinds.  Trim the length to fit and attach with a couple of 
screws on each end.

BTW, I didn't notice any difference in flight characteristics without the gap 
covers but the plane seemed to be slightly more efficient with them.
