Today, Jim Brewer and a Sonerai flyer friend, Brian Kraut and wife Kim, Colin Rainey and wife Beverly, and I flew to Fernandina Beach to meet up with Brian and talk KRs, have lunch, talk more KRs and Fly back home. It was a terribly hot day in the south, with 106 degrees when I reached my home field on the return flight. The flight was great from a purely flying perspective, with a lot of trying to maintain altitude and heading with little to no horizon. It was difficult and challenging.
I got to test my iFly720 on another long cross country. I am glad to say that it looks like the iFly folks have solved the problem with the unit locking up occasionally, with the latest beta release of V7, as I had no issues with it on either leg of the flight. This is a great GPS because you can see it and it is very easy to use, and you can even panel mount it if you like. Well, I have posted a crummy little video of the Black Bird flying behind her new Corvair engine. You have heard all the engines on test stands, well now is your chance to hear one hauling a KR2 through the sky. It did a great job, climbing with ease to 8000 ft which was a density altitude of 10560 on my route back home. Click here and on the first link in the thumbnails on that page if you want to see how bad the flying conditions were and to hear a great engine in flight. http://krbuilder.org/BlackBirdFlights/index.html I will post pics of the event as soon as everyone sends me theirs. This video was taken with a little digital camcorder called a Jazz. Someone gave it to me and it is worth every penny I paid for it. Next time I will take the real Camcorder.
