I concentrated on being light. I used shorter screws when possible. I also have very little filler in my plane. I block sanded my wings being careful not to sand into the glass. I also have diehl wing skins. My engine cowling only weighs ten lbs and two ounces. I added another eight ounces by making the exhaust cooling outlet larger. I used a Rotec fuel injector which has worked great. I also have a Revflo injector if anyone is interested. I thought my plane was over weight but I guess I'm in better shape than I thought. I still have two hours to go to get the fourty hours flown off. I'm still having trouble landing the bad boy as this is the first tail dragger for me. My best cruise speed so far is 152 mph on a 2100D. I had the prop repitched which didn't do a lot for speed but did lower my RPM's down to 3350 WOT at altitude. I have over two thousand hours in several different planes. I now own a Mooney, a KR2, and a Lancair. I enjoy flying the KR because it is so economical. I dynamically balanced my prop with my new balancer and it is almost as smooth as turning on an electric fan. I can't believe the difference. This is the second plane I have built. The Lancair was first. The KR took longer because I had to make so many parts from scratch. ________________________________ From: Prototype Mech <prototypem...@yahoo.com> To: KRnet <kr...@mylist.net> Sent: Friday, April 20, 2012 6:04 AM Subject: Re: KR> Wing weights My plane is 690lbs when I test flown it. Its probably around 700lbs now that I installed a transponder and a back-shelf for storage. Thats from a plan's dimension kr2 with a revmaster 2100D; nothing fancy on it. One of my goals is to strip my plane down to the wood frame and rebuild it lighter. The tanks were about 22# each. They could be built lighter by using .035 aluminum instead of the .040 that I used. With all the baffles, I did not need to use the thicker material. How heavy is your plane. Mine is a stock KR2 and with a Corvair engine is 750#. I think that is about 300# over the design weight for the stock KR2. But I ain't cryin, cause it flies great. It isn't a sports car, but I think it is more stable than was my much lighter first KR2. See N64KR at http://KRBuilder.org - Then click on the pics See you at the 2012 - KR Gathering in Mt. Vernon, Il ? MVN ? 40th Anniversary There is a time for building and it is over. Daniel R. Heath - Lexington, SC http://www.krbuilder.org/MyUSA/ -----Original Message----- Arg.... 72 and 70 for left and right wings with 15 gallon tanks and no lights. I hate how heavy my plane is. Anyone else have weight specs?
