I don't actually own a flying KR 2 yet either but have soloed both Martin
Roberts KR and Steve Alderman's KR and I had no KR instruction at the time I
flew Marty's airplane.
I did however own a Grumman TR 2 and had a few thousand hours of tailwheel time
in a variety of airplanes.
Steve Alderman was on hand when Marty told me to take his airplane and said
that I should be scared. When I came back they said that I flew it like I was
born in it. With that being said I would have to say that yes the Grumman TR 2
and they fly similar but the pitch sensitivity is more in line with a
helicopter and the short coupling on the tailwheel is more in line with a
Pitts.
So, with that all being said and as a CFI if I were preparing you I would
shoot for either Pitts time (easily obtainable) and about an hour in any
helicopter ( also easy to get) in straight and level flight. If you could land
the Pitts and hold the helicopter level you would be as comfortable in a KR as
anyone out there. Just remember that if the KR has a VW in it you would use
left pedal to counteract torque rather than right.
I hope this helps.
