I should mention that given my enlightened view of the importance of crankshafts in aircraft engines, I'm not sure I'd go for the welded crankshaft now. Even the Scat cranks have been known to break in Type 4 aircraft service. Last I heard they were very expensive, if even available at this point. Steve Bennett might be able to shed some light on this...
