I will not use a old style case, if you use a old VW case make sure it is a
daul relief case and use the high volume oil pressure relief springs never use
a case without it being line bored wether for aircraft or car if going bigger
than 1835 then for sure use a new case I prefere the aluminum case it is great
insurance, Up in the air is not the time to second guess if done right. Vw
engine are great engines but don't ever try to cut corners it will bite u never
use a used or reground crank the price differents is not worth it.

Buy a new one if you can.  There are only certain numbers on the old ones
that can be used.  When I had to do this many years ago, the only ones I
could find were the bad ones.  In fact, the case that cracked, turned out to
be one of the bad ones.

Has anyone had any experience rebuilding a VW with a used case?

Have you had any issues with it?

Did you line bore it?

Or am I better off with a new case?
