With the recent discussion about landing/taxi light installations, I thought I'd add my two cents worth. Tonight I just completed the installation of my taxi light in the leading edge of the left outboard wing of my KR2. The landing light is already installed in the opposite location in the right wing. These are 100 watt halogen lights from J.C.Whitney that I bought for $34.99 per set, actually years ago, and never used for anything else. I used to have a set on my motorcycle and I can testify that they'll light up a road sign a mile down the road. Yes, they weigh more than some of the small driving lights that you can get at Autozone or Advance Auto parts but they're a lot brighter and more visible too.
I'm adding a picture section on my web site at: www.zoomshare.com. You'll also find the link to it under my name on the krnet under the projects under construction if anyone is interested in seeing how it went into the wing. The cover which took the shape of the leading edge is lexan, not plexiglas. And before anyone says that it will scratch easier, I know, but they're easy to make also, and they are cold formed, therefore they don't have to be heated in an oven over a mold. The cost for a one foot wide by two foot long piece is only about $5.50 at U.S. Plastics Corp. in the city where I live. They have a web address also if anyone is interested in ordering from them. I hope this might help some of you who may be contemplating installing taxi/landing lights on your own planes. Neal Hornung lt1corve...@earthlink.net EarthLink Revolves Around You.
