Hi Joe, The cowling we had at Sun N Fun was actually one of WW's. We didn't have one of ours there for logistical reasons. I think you are right about the need or extra stiffening. One thing we may do with the cowlings we have is add a 1/8" core in the areas you have mentioned to help with rigidity but keep it light.
