Oh, I just got a lot smarter by looking up the Matco cylinders in the 
Aircraft Spruce catalog.  That's exactly what I have in my plane.  That 
screw is screwed into the top plate of the cylinder, which is held in with a 
snap ring.  You can push sideways on that screw and it'll rotate the plate, 
but the plate's not coming out until the snap ring is removed. That makes it 
easy to get the screw in a position that you can unscrew it though.  I just 
screw mine back in finger tight for the next time.
