Dana,
Since you are familiar with the area, you can decide which place would be best
overall. We had a banquet in a hangar at Mt Vernon within the last three years
at least once that I remember, so that doesn't bother me, I like airplane
hangars.
The canard boys have their fly in at Rough River every year, so if it is good
enough for them then maybe it is good enough for us. However, I do not remember
when they are there each year.

First of all gang, I have not set a date yet but will announce one next week.
I am busy working around the World Equestrian Games coming to Lexington around
the gathering time.  They expect 1.5 million visitors over three week event.  I
also have been watching weather, checking the history of the area and noted
emails from flyers.  October weather history is not discernibly different than
September.  October traditionally has 1 more cloudy day than September and one
less rainy day which amounts to .1 inch more rain in September.  The big
difference in night time weather.  October weather is much colder at night
which would adversely affect campers.  As for flying responders, only one
preferred October, one was either way and the rest preferred September.  I
still haven't formed an opinion of my own.  One thing I, and am certain other
hosts feel the same way, will do the best I can do in picking a date, setting
up forums, arranging
accommodations, hangar space and picking a place for the dinner.  Trust me
when I say this, I will not make everyone happy and no one will get exactly
what they prefer.  If I were king for day, I would be able to achieve all the
above.....but I'm just a lowly foot soldier:-)  For example, I don't like to
drive to a different location for the dinner but my place we would have to have
it in the hangar.  No biggie for me but another might have a different opinion.

If I have it here: http://www.airnav.com/airport/2I3
http://parks.ky.gov/findparks/resortparks/rr/
http://www.stateparks.com/rough_river_dam.html    we would have dodging on
site, banquet area but no hangar

The point of all this, we must sacrifices here and there.

I'm opening this up for comment
