Let me just say that I'll admit that MVN is the perfect place for the KR
Gathering as we know it. But there are a couple of problems. One is that
Larry needs some relief (and Chris Collins, as well). Two is that some of us
feel like we're in a rut and need to fly somewhere new, explore new worlds, go
where no KR pilot has ever gone before...[sorry, I watched the new Star Trek
movie recently]. So given that, I once again propose that we hold the
Gathering somewhere else next year, with the intention that it come back to MVN
on a regular basis, because it is so perfect.

So I'm going to volunteer to host it. Not at my airport (it's short, narrow,
and "private", requiring written permission to land), so I'm going to try to do
what Dana did...have it somewhere else entirely, with me and some volunteers
(hopefully) pulling everything else together to make it happen. I only have
two weeks to pull this together in a fashion that may convince the attendees at
this year's Gathering that it'll work, and therefore garner their votes.

Here's what I need:

- a location that appeals to a large cross-section of KR builders and pilots
(not under ATC controlled airspace, please)
- a few volunteers to handle each of the various areas, such as
    meals
    banquet
hangar space, if possible, or maybe we can live with tie downs, as long as
we can get out of the rain to meet
coordination with the FBO (I'll take this one, unless the "guy on the
ground" wants it)
    shirts
    trophies
    forums
local "guy on the ground" to arrange what I haven't thought of yet, if
there's anybody local to the chosen airport

So the first step is clearly to identify a location. Let's keep it off the
net, so just send your proposed location to me at n5...@hiwaay.net and we'll
start from there. Please leave the subject as 2010 KR Gathering for me so I
can keep up with them. It's almost a given that you might be volunteering for
"local guy on the ground", but I think that's as simple as providing an idea of
where some of the rest of the services above can be obtained. That's not to
say that you can't send me some gorgeous place a thousand miles from you with
no expectations other than "consider this place", but I would hope the basic
requirements would be satisfied...no tower, paved runway at least 2500' long,
and somewhat centralized in the major population area of the US. At Dana's
event we just put up a rental tent to get out of the sun, and that worked. The
location was hard to beat, and come to think of it, Lake Barkley is certainly
an option in my book, as well as Red Oak, Iowa.

Thanks,

Mark Langford
