I've been using pledge on plexi, painted fiberglass, painted metal, and dope &
fabric finishes for decades. While I have heard about the terrors of silicone
on the finish creating repair problems, it has never caused me a problem doing
repairs on any of them. With my planes hangared, a good rub down with Lemon
Pledge keeps a nice finish that beads up water for 1 - 2 years. All I do is
rinse the plane and shammy it off every few months when it gets too dusty.

Mark; careful with some of those waxes and polishes. Yes, they make it easier
to remove bugs and grime but they may make it difficult or impossible to make a
fiberglass repair or repaint due to the silicones. Take a look at a product
called "RejeX", a
polymeric coating that goes on after the surfaces are clean and dry, instead of
polish or wax. It does NOT contain silicones that cause so many problems with
painting later on (such as Lemon Pledge, Armor All, etc. contain). Supposed to
make it much easier to remove bugs and droppings and lasts a couple of months.
