Steve, thanks. I was going to hold off until Larry chimed in. As I see it, Larry has set the bar high in organizing the gathering and providing a location with allows many to come in from the N,S,E & W, as evidenced by the attendees. Many people have chimed in with ideas of incorporating the KR Gathering with other flying events or having other airplanes invited. My opinion would be to preserve the KR Gathering as just that, the KR Gathering, not a flyin. When I hosted the event, I opted to hold it 213 miles to the west of my home airport, at Lake Barkley State Park, in order to get it more centrally located for the attendees benefit, not my convenience. Sure we would all like to host the event at our home airport but sometimes it is for our benefit and not for those who attend, both flying and driving in. The planning is not that big of a deal, rely on the advice of prior hosts. The norm here lately has been to have the gathering at a location for a couple of years. That makes it easier on the host, as the planning for the second year does not take nearly as much time or effort. As much as I would like to say planning for the gathering is a daunting experience, it really isn't. Again, many have mentioned their locations offer so much in the surrounding area but I'd be willing to bet 99% of the attendees could care less, as they spend all their time on the ramp, walking, talking and sqawcking KR's. If you decide to present your proposal, just plan on the convenience of the attendees first. How will eveyone get there, where will they stay, can people camp, what will they eat, where will they eat, do I available hangar space, although a grass strip is nice what if it rains, will people be able to get in or out, where will the banquet be held at, can people get out of the sun, if not do I rent a tent, are we away from town so people don't call and complain about those "misses".
I guess where I am going is don't over think this, keep it KR and keep it simple. Hey Mark, how many day's until Margarittaville??
