It has been my experience building 4x4 engines that breathing DOES give more hp than higher compression. But there are So many variables in a discussion like this. I use Dyno2000 software and it's a lot of fun. As a general statement, it too seems to feel that breathing yields more HP. But my diesel at 22.5:1 gets really good mileage! :-) I am dropping back to lower CR for the next rendition of my 4x4 engine, still expect good power without high-octane fuel.
