Indeed there is a "print to .pdf" utility for AutoCAD available at no cost.  
It will allow you to plot out of AutoCAD to a .pdf just like any other plot 
device.  It's called pdf995 and is available as a free download at 
http://www.pdf995.com/ .  If you buy the registered version you don't have 
to read the sponsor banners, but even those are very subdued so I just run 
the sponsored ("free") version and it works great.  You can set up your page 
size, plot limits, everything just as with other plot devices.
