I'm using the same Sensenich 54x54 that I used on the 2700cc engine, and today I was turning it at 3850 rpm at 1500' straight and level, a little too fast for my taste! I was doing something like 178 mph TAS, but I didn't have the laptop with me because I was in the mood to do some rolls and I've yet to make a tiedown for the laptop. Basically this engine is turning the same prop about 250 rpm faster at WOT that the 2700cc engine would. I've sifted through a bunch of Excel files in the last few days looking for a good comparison, but it looks like it'd be apples to oranges. In general, it climbs significantly faster and does about 10 mph faster than the 2700cc engine, but I need a calm day and a 4 way GPS test to verify that. Today would have been a good one to do that, but I didn't get started flying until an hour before sunset, and didn't have the laptop, so I just practiced landings, and did a little blast around the neighborhood. The next calm day I'll do some more testing, and also swap out the Sensenich 54 x 54 for my old Sterba 52 x 60 (that's what Ed calls it, now that he's measured and labeled it) that I had on the first incarnation of the 3100 engine. Unfortunately, I didn't have airspeed and altitude on my EIS back then, so comparisons will be hard to make, but it ought to be about the same as before. When I put the Sterba on the 2700 engine it dropped the RPM about 250 rpm, but kept almost the same top speed, so that'll be a step in the right direction. I have climb performance to burn, at this point. I'll also test a higher pitch Sensenich along the way, but I suspect it'll be tough to beat the Sterba. Looks like I have to work on wheel pants now, and laptop tiedown, baggage compartment, etc...
